Museums in Leeds

Explore History and Culture in Leading Exhibitions

Advantageously situated, there are artefacts hinting to settlements as far back as the Bronze Age in the Leeds area. From seven small manors documented in the Doomsday book to a Royalist stronghold at the start of the Civil War, to a population of over 150,000 by 1840 thanks to the booming cloth trade during the industrial revolution, the city has a wealth of history and architecture. Leeds is home to many museums that explore this past and other areas of development in Leeds and beyond. During a visit, why not take the opportunity to explore what was once the world’s largest woollen mill, discover a 3000 year old Egyptian mummy and perhaps even catch a medieval joust along the docks?
