Live Music in Leeds this December
12 October 2017
Rock N Roll Royalty & Contemporary Classical Music at the First Direct Arena!
This Christmas, Leeds will once again undergo its transformation into a wondrous winter wonderland; as dazzling light displays, superb shopping and endless entertainment arrive in the city. But, at the centre of all the festive fun is the First Direct Arena! Where the likes of Liam Gallagher, Queen, Pete Tong, Andre Rieu and Jools Holland will be gracing the stage for eclectic evenings of music. All of which is happening just minutes away from 42 the Calls!
3rd December 2017
Kicking off Leeds’ delectable lineup of live music is none other than Liam Gallagher; as the raucous rocker stops off at the First Direct Arena to perform all of the hits from his debut solo album As You Were - which currently sits atop the album charts, outselling the rest of the Top 20 combined!
Since embarking on his solo venture, Liam has already enchanted audiences with setlists containing new tracks like Wall of Glass and For What it’s Worth, alongside a healthy selection of Oasis’ ageless back catalogue - Wonderwall at Leeds Fest nearly made us cry. Expect much more of the same come December.

Freddie Mercury is irreplaceable. But Adam Lambert is the first to admit that; and since joining the band in 2012, the talented artist has perfected the balance of honouring Freddie and bringing his own trademark quirks to a hallowed role.
Not forgetting Queen’s other founding members. Brian May remains a marvel on guitar, chipping in with sweeping solos throughout the evening; while Roger Taylor still possesses the same singular sound as he did in 1970.
The result? A spectacular, nostalgia inducing night with one of music’s greatest treasures - which acquaints you with all of the classics, including an unforgettable rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody, complete with the iconic music video.
12th December 2017
When Pete Tong first enlisted Jules Buckley and The Heritage Orchestra to recreate Ibiza anthems, a few eyebrows may have been raised. But, as we now know, the unlikely coupling of dance and classical music was nothing short of spectacular.
So, why not swap the carols for some dance classics this Christmas? Where you can expect arms-aloft Ibiza anthems aplenty, as the 65 strong orchestra reimagine classics by the likes of Fatboy Slim, Robert Miles, Groove Armada, Massive Attack and Faithless.
On stage, pioneer of dance music Pete Tong (on his Pioneers) is also unwavering in his crowd pleasing abilities; while the liveliness of Jules Buckley’s directing wouldn’t look out of place on an Ibiza dancefloor! Also keep an eye (and ear) out for a selection of extra special guests.
15th December 2017
Andrè Rieu, simply put, is a musical phenomenon. Singlehandedly, he has attracted a whole new audience to venues across the world with his unique blend of classical music - combining showmanship with the harmonious sounds of the Johann Strauss Orchestra.
Which will very much be the case this Christmas, as famous theme tunes, festive favourites and works of the classical music repertoire ring out across the First Direct Arena; while a sense of spectacle is provided by thousands of balloons, dazzling light shows, and sundry surprises!
However, a highlight of any evening with Rieu, is Rieu himself, as the charismatic conductor mingles with the audience, while displaying his own virtuoso on the violin. His rendition of The Blue Danube isn’t bad either - earning him the nickname The King of the Waltz!
22nd December 2017
Famously known as the presenter of Later… with Jools Holland; the music maestro will this December return to his day job, as he is joined at the First Direct Arena by his renowned Rhythm & Blues Orchestra.
Seeing as it is (nearly) Christmas, and the final date of his UK Tour, expect Jools to pull out all the stops, as he takes you on a musical journey through the decades - sharing his passion for a blissful blend of boogie-woogie, jazz and Ska.
Solos, courtesy of the expert orchestra will also abound throughout the evening, with Jools chipping in with his own wizardry on the keyboard. An undoubted highlight, however, is a guest appearance by José Feliciano - one of the most prominent stars in Latin America and revered musicians in the world!
