The English pride themselves on serving up a hearty fry-up that tends to feature sizzling bacon, fried eggs and a slice of toast smothered in butter, and Yorkshire can boast its very own regional twist. With emphasis on the finest locally sourced produce, we’re proud to say that here at 42, we think we can deliver the very best Full Yorkshire Breakfast in Leeds, especially with the inclusion of Lishman's of Ilkley sausages.

Surrounded by its famous moor and the rolling hills of the neighbouring Yorkshire Dales, the picturesque spa town of Ilkley houses an international talent in the art of butchery. Found amidst a haze of bunting trimmed shop windows, the sleek black and gold shop frontage of number 25 Leeds Road is where butcher David Lishman created the official Yorkshire sausage, and his flat-capped team assist in reproducing his many award-winning recipes day-in, day-out. Golden, fruit topped pies and an extensive selection of ribs, racks and chops lay neatly within the glass counter, while a hand painted sign above the counter reads ‘...Best Independent Butcher of Great Britain 2001’.
David Lishman began his career in butchery in 1981, bought his first shop five years later at 21 and has been growing his selection, skills and reputation in leaps and bounds ever since. With livestock welfare listing higher on his list of priorities than profit, Lishman sources the majority of his meats from local, established farmers, resulting in high quality fare that has helped him to win many an award. Using his years of craftsmanship, Lishman takes the fresh ingredients and creates a tempting range of artisanal products – take Barden Smokey bacon, cured in Ilkley beer and molasses as a mouth-watering example. Named British and Yorkshire Sausage Champion, expert judge for BBC 3’s Young Butcher of the Year and a Rick Stein ‘Food Hero’, Lishman is well and truly flying the flag for Yorkshire when it comes to meat.
No wonder then that we chose to source our 12, yes that’s 12 seasonal varieties of delectable sausage from Lishman. From pork and black pudding, to lamb and rosemary, chicken and tarragon to pure beef, each type delivers a delicious taste of what the region has to offer every breakfast time in our Leeds boutique hotel. According to Lishman, the trick to producing the ideal British sausage comes from perfecting the ratio between well-sourced meats, seasoning and bread or rusk; the latter providing texture, flavour and a lighter consistency… and considering his lengthy list of accolades, he should know. It’s his ability to create exquisitely flavoured produce that’s helped make our breakfast the best in Leeds, with a choice of two from the extensive sausage selection accompanying our Full Yorkshire Breakfast.
The 42 Breakfast
Featuring egg fried bread, best back bacon, kidney, black pudding, tomato, mushrooms, and of course, two Lishman’s of Ilkley sausages, the Full Yorkshire Breakfast is just one of the many tempting options included in our English Breakfast Menu. For £14.95, enjoy freshly prepared juices, artisan breads, homemade jams and a much needed cup of tea, as well as the choice between an array of hot dishes. Sample Whitby smoked kippers served with grilled tomatoes, buttered bread soldiers dipped in soft boiled duck eggs, or ‘a little bit of crumpet at 42’; a delicious stack of crumpets topped with Yorkshire ham, poached eggs and melting mozzarella cheese. While savoury options include smoked haddock or kedgeree, the sweet-toothed can look forward to fresh, homemade waffles.
Our deluxe continental selection is also available without an additional hot dish for just £11.75, and includes a warming bowl of porridge and lighter options of muesli or cereal. Our team begin service at 7am in the week, ending at 9.30am, while at weekends and on bank holidays, breakfast is available between 8am and 11.30am; perfect for well-deserved lie-ins in our oh-so-soft feather duvets. Served in the stunning surroundings of the River Room, a 28 foot long space with beamed ceilings, wooden flooring and contemporary artworks, each guest gets the opportunity to soak up the very best dining experience in Leeds from the very start of their day.
