WWE Live 2017
8th November 2017
Year after year, WWE Live has lit up Leeds’ First Direct Arena - delivering its unique brand of sports entertainment to fans both young and old, in evenings which entail as much pantomime and choreographed pain as they do theatre and exceptional athleticism. But for the uninitiated, it’s all a bit absurd.
Why, some might ask, would you want to watch grown men and women dress up in spandex and pretend to hurt each other? Well, for starters, in what other ‘sport’ can you see competitors fly 20 ft. from a ladder to dispatch an opponent through a table? What you’re getting is an action packed soap opera, bolstered by an avalanche of whodunits; which over the years has seen storylines involving kidnappings, hit-and-runs, assassination attempts and all manner of far-fetched high-jinks.
And even if it is fake, who cares?! We’re all aware that Daenerys Targaryen doesn’t actually ride dragons - but we still love watching her in action, and much of the same can be said for wrestling (although, now we think about it, a live action Game of Thrones would be all kinds of awesome).
So if it is a chaotic circus of high-flying theatrics, cringeworthy-yet-captivating narratives, and the perfect balance of sport and spectacle you require this November; look no further than WWE Live in Leeds! As kids, big kids, and die-hard wrestling fans fill the seats of First Direct Arena; while foam fingers, homemade signs, cheers, jeers, and spontaneous chants of ‘Yorkshire’ fill the air!
The Current Superstars & Returning WWE Royalty Coming to Leeds!
So who will be responsible for causing said carnage come November? Well, while subject to change, WWE Live is expected to bring most of its current batch of superstars to the UK, who will also be accompanied by returning wrestling royalty! Here’s a few faces to look out for.
Jinder Mahal: ‘The Maharaja’ shocked the world by becoming WWE champion when he defeated Randy Orton at WWE Backlash. Since then, he has stabled up alongside the Singh Bros - who will also be in attendance - so expect renewed rivalries in abundance, as the likes of Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura, and A.J. Styles seek to topple wrestling’s leading man!
Randy Orton: Arguably the biggest name in world wrestling today, Randy Orton needs no introduction; but even if you aren’t familiar with ‘The Viper’ - you will undoubtedly be aware of his trademark RKO and their ability to seemingly appear ‘outta nowhere’. Watch out Jinder Mahal!
Becky Lynch: Hailing from Dublin, Becky Lynch will almost certainly have a few admirers in the crowd; especially since she was another to be among the titles at Backlash, becoming the first ever SmackDown Women's Champion! Now the leading lady in a bourgeoning women’s division, expect action as fiery as her hair when she looks to overthrow current champion, Natalya.
The Hardy Boyz: Perhaps most excitingly (for us 90s kids, anyway) the Hardy Boyz are also set to make an appearance at WWE Live 2017! You would have been easily forgiven for thinking these guys had washed up in the wrestling abyss, but apparently Jeff and Matt - now in their 40s - still enjoy throwing themselves about as much as they did in their prime; so expect Swanton Bombs in abundance!
Other superstars set to appear in Leeds include: A.J. Styles, Kevin Owens, Rusev, Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe, Charlotte Flair and Shinsuke Nakamura - making this year’s WWE Live lineup arguably the most glittering to date.
And after all the action and excitement of an evening at WWE Live, a cosy bed, luxury cotton sheets and a soft feather duvet awaits you at 42 the Calls - which is situated just 9 minutes from the First Direct Arena!
