The Who Return To Leeds for 50th Anniversary
10 July 2014
Rock Legends to Play 50 Years of Classic Anthems at First Direct Arena
Dust off your tailored trousers, rev up the Vespa and rediscover your rock and roll roots when The Who return to Leeds for their 50th anniversary tour later this year. One of the bestselling bands of all time will be performing a show that guitarist Peter Townshend describes as 'Hits, Picks, Mixes and Misses' at First Direct Arena on December the 2nd 2014.
Music fans will already be fully aware of The Who's legendary Live At Leeds recording in 1970. The band's first live album has been cited by many as the best live rock recording of all time, with one Mojo journalist exclaiming "...the future for rock as it became, in all its pomp and circumstance, began right here" - a statement not to be taken lightly. Arguably their biggest hit, My Generation, was drawn out for an almost sixteen minute medley with other songs, instrumental riffs and themes on the album, which has been reissued several times. Though crowds will definitely be larger at First Direct Arena than the 2,000 capacity venue 44 years ago, intimacy will not be lost as the building offers the best sound experience in the UK.
Fast-forward to 2014 and the audience can look forward to an 'Amazing Journey' with the band through their entire career. From mod band beginnings as the The High Numbers to a back catalogue of classic albums, including My Generation and Tommy to Who's Next, Quadrophenia...and of course Live At Leeds, amongst many others, the evening promises an incredible experience. Anthems and deeper cuts from their collection will be performed, including Won't Get Fooled Again, My Generation, Baba O'Riley, Who Are You, I Can't Explain, Pinball Wizard and Behind Blue Eyes. While their infamous stage antics and ability to create the most powerful of atmospheres will ensure a music event not to be missed.
Tickets will go on sale on Friday the 11th of July 2014 for the 13,000 capacity venue, located just a 20 minute stroll from 42. Alternatively Gaucho Restaurant, a contemporary hide-away offering an authentic Argentine experience within Leeds city centre, are able to offer tickets for the Gaucho Box immediately.
